No. Paraguay imposes no minimum-stay requirement to keep your residency, which is rare worldwide. You can live in another country and keep your status. That said, we recommend occasional visits to maintain ties with the country, especially if you plan to apply for citizenship later, where genuine connection to Paraguay matters.

Yes. Paraguayan residency has no effect on your existing citizenship: you remain a citizen of your home country and keep using your current passport. Paraguay does not ask you to renounce anything. If you one day pursue Paraguayan naturalization, check how your home country treats dual citizenship, but residency itself creates no conflict.

Yes. With your Paraguayan cédula you can open accounts at local banks, in both guaraníes and US dollars. It is one of the reasons clients cite most for getting residency. Requirements vary by bank and some ask for proof of income, but the cédula is the key that unlocks the local financial system.

The cédula is Paraguay's national identity card, issued by the National Police to foreign residents as well as citizens. It is what you use in daily life: opening bank accounts, signing contracts, getting a phone line or identifying yourself to any authority. It is included in all three packages and is processed once your residency is approved.

The RUC is your Paraguayan taxpayer registration number. You need it to issue invoices, run a business or build a genuine tax-residency profile in Paraguay. If you only want residency as a plan B, you can skip it at first. It is included in the Premium and Investor packages.

Paraguay uses a territorial system under Law 6380/19: foreign-source income is taxed at 0%, local-source income at a flat 10%, and VAT is 10%. Automatic information exchange (CRS) starts in 2027. It is one of the simplest regimes anywhere, but your overall picture depends on your home country — talk to a tax advisor there too.

The Constitution (Article 148) requires three years of permanent residency before you can apply for naturalization. Via the standard temporary route that means about five years in total: two years temporary, then three years permanent. On the Investor route, permanent status is immediate, so the three-year clock starts on day one. The civics interview at the Supreme Court is in Spanish.

Law 6.984/2022 created a route for investors to receive permanent residency directly, skipping the temporary stage entirely. Under Law 6.984/2022, temporary residency is granted for two years; once completed, you can convert it to permanent residency, valid for ten years and renewable. The investor route jumps straight to permanent. The old route of depositing 5,000 USD in a bank was abolished in October 2022, though many outdated websites still mention it.

Yes. Paraguayan residency grants full work rights: you can take employment, freelance or incorporate a company. To invoice legally you will need the RUC, included in the Premium and Investor packages. Many of our clients are remote entrepreneurs who bill from Paraguay to take advantage of the territorial tax regime.

It depends on your goals. In favor: low cost, no minimum stay, territorial taxation, fast processing and a genuine path to a second passport.
